The Look: The sofa bed contrary to sofa beds usually advertised does not look clunky or bulky .There is something to be said about the the clean simple lines and the no frills design which sits just fine with modern decor and could equally work well in a cozy traditional one as well.I have used this in our living room and can assure you that unless I tell someone - that it can actually unfold into a bed - it looks just like a sofa.I have paired it up with the chaise lounge on the right and can say that it fits well with and falls into place with our living room design in our apartment.I added the chaise lounge for both the comfort, storage as well as for binge watching on Netflix on a daily basis - especially during the winters with a blanket on top.
The Price:At $1449 for the whole piece with the chaise lounge(no discounts at time of purchase) - with 10 years of guarantee - it definitely beats other offerings in the market.I had searched the web and the market thoroughly and was not able to find anything to beat this price with the guarantee attached - not to mention the clean and stylish look overall . Other products were definitely on the pricier side, with clunky designs and guarantees lasting for a maximum of 5 years.
The Feel:The Sofa seat cushions are firm and may initially seem to be on the hard side. But it grows into you and I love sitting on it. Its not very soft that you would sink into it.The only drawback is that the seat cushions keep sliding out and you have to push it back into place.The back cushions are softer when you want to sit back and enjoy. It would fit all sizes and shapes of people.the sofa bed section of two can easily fit 3-5 people - it is so wide.The Chaise lounge also easily fits 1 adult and a child snugging together. Its my special place for Friday Nights to snuggle with my 10 year old daughter for a movie.
The sofa bed Mechanism: I will be honest when I say that it requires some getting used to. The initial time - I felt it difficult to do it just by myself. But after a couple of times operating it - you get the hang of it. I love how the whole thing folds to fit inside. This is sure to remain on the IKEA -well loved list of things for a long time.I can see this especially when our living space is shrinking and we are always on the search for cleverly designed products which can take on more than just one job to maximize our spaces.
The Sofa Bed itself : The mattress supplied is the Malfors Firm and the bed itself has got rave reviews from my daughter and her friends who have joined her for sleep overs - both for its comfort and being firm.Remember that its use is primarily meant to be once in a while for unexpected guests and I would say it fits the bill very well comfortably able to sleep 2 adults.For the kids - the magic of pulling out the bed and converting the sofa into an actual bed is unbeatable - They have enjoyed jumping in the bed, playing cubby house with the cushions and blankets and not to mention - snuggling in for a movie night during the sleepover ritual.
Selling features: The major selling features for me in the storage available in the chaise lounge and the washable sofa covers. I love that I do not have to be majorly stressed about stains or food spilling - because in the end _ I can always wash the sofa covers once in a while.I opted for Gunnared beige and would have loved a burgundy colour option from IKEA( something I might invest in after a while) - would have hidden all the stains fairly well as well as given a luxurious feel to the living room.We always have spare bed space if needed in the living room which is a plus. So all in all - the VIMLE sofa bed option has been a winner for our family.
Things to remember:
1.As with any purchase - take measurements of your space where you intend to use the product for.
2.Take into account the space needed when the bed unfolds
3.While the product design rocks - the assembly is time consuming as for any IKEA product - so take some time out of your schedule as you will need it for sure.Our took 2-3 hours easy with breaks and the help of our friends -all happy memories.
